Looking for support in your doula work and/or business? I’m here to help.

Doula work can feel lonely and isolating because we often work as a solo practice and without co-workers. Even if we are part of a group of doulas or have backup doulas we rely on, there are few opportunities to share stories, compare notes, and debrief with other doulas unless we create them. Since doula work is unregulated (and I like it that way) the infrastructure doesn’t exist to support doulas beyond the initial training. Often new doulas are starting from scratch when it comes to building a business, figuring out how to manage on-call life, navigating the challenges of today’s healthcare system, and learning to trust themselves as a capable and valuable support person.

I’ve been a full spectrum doula for eight years, which in the doula world is kinda long since most doulas change course before three years. Over the past few years I’ve had the opportunity to work with new and newer doulas in an advisory role and I really, really love it. Doulaing the doula! My intention with providing advisory services to doulas is to offer personalized information and tips specific to the scenario you’re working with, build confidence, create space for processing and normalizing experiences, and answer your questions.

You may not have a clear sense of your identity as a doula yet and that’s okay. For me, the values that I hold in my everyday life are very much present in my doula work. I think it’s important to find a doula community that aligns with the kind of support you offer and the values that are important to you. Here are some things that are important to me:

  • Inclusivity

  • Reproductive and racial justice

  • Supporting the full spectrum of pregnancy outcomes

  • Patient rights and how to advocate

  • Valuing the uniqueness of each client’s experience and preferences

What I offer as a doula advisor:

  • Support for birth doulas, postpartum doulas, and abortion doulas
